Our Programs

"Education is the most powerful weapon which   you can use to change the world". Nelson Mandela

When planning activities for learning/exploring at Petits Choux daycare we follow emergent curriculum. What us emergent curriculum you might ask? Good question, "emergent curriculum is, a way of teaching that focuses on being responsive to the children's interests and building off them to create meaningful learning experiences. This way of learning priorities active participation, relationship building, various methods and curriculum areas, and play based learning. Through the exploration of these experiences the children gain a sense of understanding the world around them.

Preschool Room

We have 16 preschool spaces with a ratio of 1:8. Preschool children are classified as children ages 3-5 years.

Petits Choux Daycare is a bilingual centre, our preschool program Les Adventures Francias is ran from September-June. The program consists of letters A-Z as well as numbers 1-10. Each week the children learn a new letter, as well as words the correspond with the letter. While learning the letters/words in French the children are also taught the signs from ASL. American Sign Language is a great form of communication for non-verbal children, and also teaches the children fine motor skills.  This program goes beyond required, while not intimidating the children.

Preschool is ran on Tuesday and Thursdays 9am-1pm.

What to expect while your child is at preschool:

learning through various methods such as crafts, fine motor, gross motor, and attending skills

peer mentoring and social skills

learning French and Sign Language

building relationships with peers and teachers

having lots of fun!

Our daily activities are done through emergent curriculum.

Infant Room

The Infant room has 4 infant spaces with a ratio of 1:4. Infants are classified as children from the ages of 3 months to 2 years. When children are 18 months they become of age to move into the toddler room, spots depending.

Infants develop new skills everyday. They explore and learn about their world through their senses, their emerging motor skills and their caregiving routines. They are born curious and ready to learn. We create infant learning environments to provide experiences that respond to infants' natural curiosity and emerging skills.

Infants are also taught basic sign language as a form of communication early on..

Infant/Toddler Room

The toddler room has 4 infant spaces with a ratio of 1:4, and 8 toddler spaces with a ratio of 1:6. Toddlers are classified as children who are ages 2-3 years. In September of the year the child turns 3, they may graduate to the preschool room.

In the infant/toddler room the staff work hard to set up the environment and plan activities that foster the children's growing independence. Curriculum in this room is developed based on the children's needs and desires, emergent curriculum.
